Paria Fuel Tragedy Survivor Still Wants Justice After Collecting $1M Ex-gratia Payout

Money, it seems, is the ultimate anaesthetic, capable of numbing even the deepest psychological scars. Apparently, the almighty dollar really talks, and when it does, not only does bullshit walk, as the saying goes, but memories of tragedy seem to become less traumatic. Nightmares decrease both in frequency and in intensity when money is introduced into the equation. Money seems to be a literal eraser for the human brain. Memory and trauma could be bought out for cash.

That much I gathered from Christopher Boodram's reactions to his one-million-dollar ex gratia payment from the government over the Paria Fuel Diving tragedy. Boodram stated, “From it (nightmares) being every night, now it’s not every night, but it’s still there. Sometimes I still jolt out of sleep, breathing hard, just reliving the whole experience again,”

Extrapolating further from what Mr. Boodram said, one could infer that another million or two might decrease those sleep-jolting, breath-depriving episodes. And who knows? Maybe an additional 2 million on top of that, making 5 million in the aggregate – which is what other parties have demanded as adequate compensation – would banish all memories of the incident into psychological oblivion, as if it just never happened. Just wondering.
