PNM a victim of its own incompetence.
For 10 long years, the country was regaled by the PNM with stories of UNC corruption. At every given opportunity, on every political platform available to him, then-PNM Political Leader Dr. Keith Rowley made serious allegations of UNC malfeasance of the worst kind. But to this day, none of the alleged acts of corruption or any of the politicians allegedly involved - with the exception of David Lee, whose trial is still pending - has been brought before the courts to account for their actions.
Citizens are left to conclude that either there was no merit to Dr. Rowley's never-ending litany of allegations, or the government he led for those 10 years was so hopelessly incompetent that it could not "put its money where its mouth was" and prosecute the corruption allegedly engaged in by the UNC during its term.
Now contrast the PNM’s demonstrated lethargy and indifference toward suspected UNC corruption with the latter's no-nonsense approach to suspected PNM malfeasance.
Within just over a year of coming into office, the UNC administration has delivered severe blows to the PNM’s financiers. Furthermore, the High Court’s issuance of a preliminary unexplained wealth order has placed the PNM virtually on the doorstep of the court, forcing the party to render a legal account for the millions of dollars used to finance the construction of its Balisier House headquarters.
Ultimately, the contrast speaks for itself. While the PNM mastered the art of political theater and empty platform rhetoric, the UNC has demonstrated that true accountability is measured not by endless accusations, but by swift, decisive action in a court of law.
