Black Faces In UNC Cabinet

PART 2 - Continued From Part 1.

As recently as 2007–2010, just prior to the exit of the Manning administration, the UNC publicly objected to HDC housing projects being built in East Indian areas. They feared it would bring urban, lower-income and predominantly black "outsiders" – who made up the bulk of the HDC applicant database – into rural Indo-Trinidadian communities. The UNC warned that those "outsiders" [Black People] would dilute the local culture, social structure and traditional lifestyle of Indians.

So, where is this talk of inclusion coming from? In the absence of public repudiation of those past East Indian attituides, sentiments and UNC policies, it is certainly not coming from the human heart but from pure political need for a vote winning strategy.

What is particularly distasteful is not so much the racist opportunism of the UNC leadership using black faces – better can’t be expected of them. But the absolute bankruptcy of self-respect in black individuals who willingly pulled up chairs to dine at the UNC table, is utterly staggering. While their supporters see nothing wrong with their political choices, many across the country argue that Black People who accept their tokenism should feel a deep sense of shame when looking in the mirror.

To many observers, Black People accepting an invitation to a house where history tells them that, deep down, they are viewed by their hosts as cultural and physical pollution – monkeys to be fed with bananas as seen in UNC ads during the 2015 general election – is beyond comprehension. Little do they know that when they get up from that table, their East Indian host would probably instruct his East Indian staff to "throw way dem plates de Karpars and dem eat in, eh, and spray some 'disinfect' where dey sit dong. In fact, put all dem chairs outside one time."

Yet, there they are, sitting, eating and drinking, thinking they are equal human partners, completely unfazed by the fact that they are nothing more than a collective utility – a means to an end. In the traditional mindset that governs the UNC's core, their black presence is tolerated only for the black votes they can deliver.

Theirs is the ultimate act of self-humiliation as well as group betrayal; they barter their heritage, compromise their dignity and allow themselves to be tokenised by a political party that historically has looked at them, and people who look like them, with pure disdain.

If black individuals choose to forget who the UNC is and the prejudice the party represents in so many forms, both subtle and blatant, it is their right. But it is also the right of every self-respecting citizen in this country, to treat with absolute scorn, those who have traded their ancestral pride for political titles and benefits.

Of course, we anticipate the argument from their supporters and the apologists for African 'Uncle Tomism' that "No. dey ent betraying nobody. Dey trying to change tings from within." BULLSHIT! Change what? They cannot change what in their minds does not exist. So put dat in orl yuh Uncle Tom pipes and smoke it.

I challenge any Sanatanist Hindu to deny the truths of this article.

Right-thinking Trinbagonians, particularly proud Black People, will always remember the UNC for who they are: betrayers of the national interest, underminers of our sovereignty, kowtowers, bootlickers and brown-nosers, bowing and scraping for superpower approval, grovelling for a pat on the backside from Donald Trump and Narco Rubio, so it can be waved here as political capital to keep themselves in power.

Under the UNC, national pride is dead. In replacement, the party offers an 'all-expenses-paid', one-way trip back to servitude and bondage; the 'SS Gullible' is moored west of the Caroni Swamp in shallow waters. Its 5 man crew under the well-known Captain John is waiting for more self loathing black people to join them. But be warned – this is no Fatel Rozack crossing the 'kala pani' to build a new life of progress; the 'SS Gullible' is engineered to strip African people of their hard-won freedom and navigate them straight back into psychological and physical shackles, right within their own Trini homeland.

An old friend of mine, now deceased – who was involved in Caribbean politics since the dawn of time – once told me, and I will quote his exact words here, "The UNC in Trinidad and the PPP/Civic in Guyana represent the Neo Colonialists' last hope of relegating the black people of both countries back to servitude and bondage."
