A Welcome Absence and Necessary Reprieve

Who the hell cares whether the top cop was granted or not granted permission to leave the jurisdiction? What's the fuss about? We should be grateful for whatever reprieve from his leadership, his absence has given us, however temporary. The concern is misguided and missing the real point. Frankly, this temporary break from his 'leadership'... feels like Divine intervention, as if a high pressure valve has been opened by the Almighty.

Looking closely at what we all know but few are willing to state, public trust in the TTPS has eroded because of Guevarro's attitude and responses to controversial police killings and unchecked rogue behavior of officers. Furthermore, his SoE strategy to lock up every suspected criminal without evidence or charge, then claim success in crime reduction, speaks to his law enforcement instincts and makes his absence welcome and all the more necessary.

Using a State of Emergency as a blunt instrument only manufactures a temporary drop in numbers; once those citizens are released, the root crisis remains untouched, and guess what? Crime goes back to where it was before.

His hiatus from the TTPS serves the public better; we hope it becomes permanent. It allows other leadership to shine and opens the door for an immediate and much needed change in direction.
