Panday, Bharath criticise PM’s Republic Day message.

Reading Vasant Bharath's and Mickela Panday's criticisms of the PM’s Republic Day message, I cannot help but wonder if anyone is truly surprised by either the tone or content of that message? People need to accept the unfortunate reality of Trinidad and Tobago's position today, and the fact that many were duped into voting for the mockery that is being offered as leadership.

After a Republic Day message that chose division over unity, many citizens who voted for change are now openly questioning whether they got change, exchange, or were grossly short-changed - sold a version of leadership that was just a pipe dream.

But at the end of the day, whether wittingly or unwittingly, people got what they voted for. As the Americans would say,"just suck it up and live with it."

Citizens must seek comfort in the fact that 'the longest rope has an end'; brighter days and better leadership are ahead. On current form, the political rope is running out.

Public discourse will return to previous levels of decency, respect for independent institutions, respect for the Constitution, and above all, respect for the people themselves, including political opponents.

In the meantime, citizens should just dismiss the tribal rah-rah emanating from the lips of Kamla Perad-Bissessar.
